Surf in Bali: compare areas, conditions and people planning to paddle out
Compare 20 Bali surf spots and areas, check the ocean for the day, then explore real public sessions by coast, time and level. If none fits, publish your own plan.
Carving Mates connects people around a plan. It is not a surf school, lifeguard service or guarantee that conditions are suitable.

Bali surf spots and areas: a 20-spot planning matrix
Start with actual ability, bottom and today’s conditions, not a famous beach name. A complete beginner should use a qualified school that selects a small teaching section on the day; specific banks at Kuta, Legian or Seminyak, or a suitable Batu Bolong peak, may fit supervised learning in small conditions. Most other locations below default to intermediate or harder surfing, and the shallow Bukit reefs require substantially more experience. April–October makes the west and southwest coasts useful first checks, while November–March may shift that first check east or southeast when the actual wind suits the beach orientation. Current swell, wind, tide, current, water quality, access and crowd override the calendar. The labels below describe a spot’s usual character in suitable conditions, never today’s ocean, and “beginner” never means a safety guarantee.
High-performance right over coral-covered lava in front of a black-sand beach.
Intermediate–advanced; advanced with size.
Can work year-round; sources favour November to April and low-wind mornings.
Shallow sections, rips, crowd, early wind, tide and exit.
Before entering, check BMKG’s official Laut Bali marine forecast and wave warnings, the local tide, beach flags or notices and advice from a qualified local instructor or guide. An open-ocean forecast does not by itself predict the wave breaking over a particular bank or reef.

Turn “surf Bali” into a clear, joinable plan
1
Choose a real session
Compare the approximate coast, date, time, level and available places before requesting to join.
2
Check the ocean separately
Use current forecasts, local warnings and direct observation. A public plan never certifies the conditions.
3
Coordinate before travelling
If the host accepts your request, use the chat to confirm the public meeting point and any changes.
Already know where and when you want to surf?
Publish surf, an approximate public location, date, time, level and places. Name the coast or beach access clearly without sharing a private address.
Bali has very different coastlines, reef and beach breaks. The same forecast can produce different conditions at Kuta, Canggu, the Bukit Peninsula or the east coast.
Every participant must check current swell, wind, tide, access, warnings and their own ability. Carving Mates does not select a safe spot or supervise user sessions.
These west-coast beach areas are widely used by learners and schools, but conditions and crowds change by hour. A post should name a recognisable public meeting area, state whether it is practice or independent surfing, and never promise beginner-safe water.
Canggu, Berawa and Pererenan
Nearby breaks can have different bottoms, currents, exposure and crowd pressure. “Canggu” alone may be too broad: include the approximate beach area, intended time and honest level so people can decide whether the plan is relevant.
Uluwatu and the Bukit Peninsula
Many Bukit reef breaks, access points and currents require local knowledge and experience. A social session is not instruction. Beginners should choose a qualified school and an appropriate teaching location instead of following a generic user post.
Sanur and the east coast
Wind and seasonal patterns can make the east and west coasts behave differently. Check the same-day marine forecast and local advice rather than assuming a month, coast or app colour guarantees a useful window.
Level, board and intent
Say whether the plan is a relaxed paddle-out, longboard session, shortboard session or supervised lesson arranged elsewhere. Include your real level and equipment needs; do not label a peer meetup as a class.
Forecast, flags and observation
BMKG provides official marine information, but model values still need local interpretation. Recheck alerts, beach flags, access and the ocean on arrival. If the conditions do not match your level, do not enter.

Does Carving Mates run surf lessons in Bali?+
No. Carving Mates helps people discover and coordinate public activity plans. Surf lessons must be booked directly with a qualified school or instructor.
Which Bali surf spot should I choose?+
Carving Mates does not choose a spot for you. Compare the coast, forecast, tide, access, local guidance and your real ability before deciding.
Are the public sessions supervised?+
Not unless the session description clearly identifies a real qualified provider. A normal user session is a peer plan, not instruction or lifeguard supervision.
Can I find beginner surf in Bali here?+
You can filter public plans by level, but a beginner should still use a qualified school and confirm that the teaching location and conditions are appropriate that day.
What if conditions change?+
Recheck official forecasts and local conditions, then coordinate any change through the session chat. Cancel or postpone if the ocean does not match the group’s ability.
